THE CAFE SERIES
While sitting in a Parisian café, one day, a Friday in fact, I decided to carve into wood, and hopefully to put to rest, a fierce inner battle. These block prints are pulled on a heavyweight canvas. With a brayer, I spread thick printer’s ink. With my assistant Donna Bone, we lowered the canvas onto the plate. Because the ink was so sticky, if necessary, we could lift areas of the canvas to apply more ink and know that the register would be exact. The second color has been stenciled. There are eleven images, each is 4′ x 5′. There is also a folio series of the blocks prints. The prints were photographically reduced to 15” X 17” and then silk-screened onto archival 100% rag paper. This project was completed in 1992.
