INHERITED DREAMS

INHERITED DREAMS was yet another project exploring the theme of alienation. This was my first use of Xerox on fabric. I collaged the image and then cut the main center image into nine pieces. The borders were collaged at the same time, but were cut separately. All the sections were then laid on self-adhesive sheets of label paper. I copied them at a small office where I had to promise to fix the Xerox machine if pieces of thread were found. They were, and I repaired the machine. My assistant, Donna Bone, then delicately sewed the pieces together, including a backing, and the original image came together again. There are seven tapestries, each 53″ x 56″, Xeroxed on fabric and hand painted with acrylic. A metal rod has been installed in each piece for installation. This project was completed in 1980. INHERITED DREAMS is in the permanent collection of St. John’s College, Santa, NM.
